ERIN – It will cost approximately $1.2 million to repair a bridge and culvert west of the Tenth Line.
Approved during an Erin council meeting Thursday afternoon, staff said the condition index for Bridge 5 and Culvert 2053 on Second Line are "very low" and in "severe need of replacement."
Tendering the project to South Shore Contracting, staff said replacing both structures will cost $1,148,127, plus a $50,000 contingency and excluding HST.
The completion date for both projects is anticipated to be Oct. 15.
But Coun. Jamie Cheyne was concerned consultants could change their minds and want to turn the existing culvert into a bridge like on Sideroad 17.
"This has been a long haul and we're not done yet and I just hope that this culvert stays a culvert and it's not out for a year," said Cheyne, during the meeting. "These roads aren't perhaps as well travelled as Sideroad 17 but we need to be aware of and ahead of these types of problems."
Staff said the township trusts the hired construction company to do good work.
The construction is not expected to interfere with the ongoing wastewater construction.
