Centre Wellington Ward 3 candidate Debora Taylor.

EloraFergusToday asked candidates in the upcoming municipal election to tell us a little bit about themselves and their platform.

Name: Debora (Deb) Taylor

Occupation: Cook at a local retirement home.

How long have you lived in Centre Wellington? I have lived in Centre Wellington for 54 years.

Do you reside in the ward you are running in? Yes, I have lived in Ward 3 for the last 4 years.

Why are you running in this election? I am running in this election to help ensure that services that are provided to the residents of Centre Wellington are in line with the provincial growth projections. I think that it is very important that WE are protecting our greenspace and water ways. Our median age group in Centre Wellington is 44. I think it is important to start preparing for an aging population. Our crumbling bridge and road infrastructure is also a going concern. Accessibility is also an issue I would like to also see addressed.

What qualifies you to represent your ward? The 25 endorsements I received.

Why should people vote for you? I feel that I would be a good honest voice for Ward 3.

What do you see as the main issues facing residents of the ward? Accessible Core l Housing.

What do you see as the main issues facing residents of Centre Wellington on a broader scale? The rising cost of food and housing.

What is the most important thing you want to see changed in Centre Wellington? I would like to see the heavy trucks and transports taken out of our downtown cores.

What services need to be improved in Centre Wellington? At a county level?

Is Centre Wellington growing too fast, just the right amount, or not fast enough? I think CW is growing to fast and our infrastructure and housing can not keep up.

What can be done at the local level about the rising cost of housing? Some say the answer is more construction and more inclusionary zoning and more mixed use. I don’t feel that there is a fix all. Labour and the Cost of Materials is a big factor.

Do you support building a new $27 million operations centre? Summary: Township operations staff currently use the following facilities located at various locations across the Township: • Fergus East Works Garage; • Pilkington Office and Works Garage; • West Garafraxa Works Garage; • Fergus Waterworks; • Elora Works Garage; and • Parks Barn, Farmhouse, and Greenhouses. These facilities are currently at or above capacity, are deteriorating and nearing the end of their service life, and have sites that are too small to accommodate growth or expansion.

How do we make Centre Wellington an even better place to live? WE can make Centre Wellington a better placed to live by continuing to show our strong community strength.

“Community is unity”
