Each July, in partnership with The Elora Festival and The Elora Singers, St. John's presents the Florence Nightingale Community Service Award to a member of the community for their outstanding service and commitment.  On Sunday, July 10, 2022 Jane Rapp was recognized as our “Lady of the Lamp”.

Peter Barr, chair of The Elora Festival and warden of St. John’s Elora, spoke of Jane’s dedication as team-lead at the University Hospital in London in the neurological unit and of her accomplishment as one of the founders of the second palliative care unit in Canada, based in London, ON.

Jane spent a lifetime mentoring young nurses before transitioning from the hospital and palliative care environment to a small family practice in Fergus.

Jane moved to Elora in 2008 and spent fourteen years with The Elora Festival and The Elora Singers. Seven of those years were spent as coordinator of 150 volunteers where Jane made the welfare of singers and volunteers her focus.

Reverend Canon Paul Walker spoke of Jane’s work at St. John’s Church; of Jane’s professionalism, calm, warmth and caring. Reverend Paul described Jane’s ability to build trust quickly and offer it completely. “In Jane’s presence, people feel confident knowing everything is going to be all right”. Jane continues to offer her gifts of time and talent to St. John’s as a greeter, chalice bearer and most recently, as a member of the Pandemic Reopening Team.

Faith, music and community service are ingrained in Jane’s being.

The 2022 Florence Nightingale Community Service Award was presented to Jane Rapp with deep affection and gratitude for all that she has given to countless numbers of patients, their families, St. John’s Church, The Elora Festival and The Elora Singers. Thank you Jane.
