WELLINGTON COUNTY – Those who create a hazard by depositing material like dirt or gravel on county roads can now be held accountable.

The County of Wellington’s council officially approved adopting a bylaw to regulate the “fouling of county roads” at a Thursday meeting.

A report noted the roads division often receives complaints of fouling on county roads which could be the result of dirt tracking by trucks, machines or the result of improperly-secured loads depositing material on the roads.

This can be a nuisance and create unsafe conditions for road users.

Prior to the bylaw, staff could only request the owner or occupant of the property generating the complaint to have the road cleaned, otherwise road staff would do the work at the cost of the county.

With this bylaw, a notice of violation can be delivered to the appropriate person requiring them to fix the issue at their own expense.

The full bylaw and report can be read in this agenda starting on page 251.
