GUELPH – A Wellington County couple charged in the hit and run death of Lucas Shortreed had their first court appearance Thursday.
David Alexander Halliburton, 55, and Anastasia Marie Halliburton, 53, both of Arthur township, appeared virtually during bail court at the Ontario Court of Justice on Wyndham Street.
David Halliburton appeared by audio only from Maplehurst Correction Centre in Milton he was represented by duty counsel Alan Faeorin-Cruich at Thursday's hearing.
Anastasia appeared by video from Vanier Women's Complex in Milton. She was represented by lawyer Gerald Punnett.
The case was put over until Friday for a bail hearing.
Justice of the peace Laura Gorczynski Plate placed a publication ban on the case.
The couple were arrested on Wednesday for alleged involvement in the hit and run death of 18-year-old Shortreed who was walking home from a party on Oct. 10, 2008, when he was struck by a car and killed. OPP also executed a search warrant at a property and recovered a vehicle.
David Halliburton has been charged with:
- Fail to stop at scene of accident involving bodily harm or death
- Obstruct justice
Anastasia Halliburton has been charged with:
- Accessory after the fact to commit indictable offence
- Obstruct justice
