ERIN – Unspecified errors found in a report regarding multi-million dollar renovations at the Erin Community Centre impacts a tender approved by Erin council at a meeting earlier in March.

Erin council awarded a nearly $3 million contract to B.E. Construction Ltd. for renovations at the Erin Community Centre, also called the Centre 2000, at a meeting on March 9. This includes installing an emergency generator, upgrades to electrical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, roof structure replacement, a new alarm system and accessibility improvements.

After a closed session at a Thursday afternoon Erin council meeting, mayor Michael Dehn gave an update regarding the Erin Community Centre renovations.

He explained architects on this project, D + H Architects Inc., provided design drawings and administered the tender process for it.

“The information presented to council was a result of their expert analysis. These architects advise the town that their report analysis contained errors, which impacts the tenders,” Dehn said. “The architects provided a new report and analysis. Council needs to act in accordance with the correct analysis.”

The mayor did not provide anymore details at the meeting but put forward a notice of motion to reconsider the Erin Community Centre renovations previously approved by council.

Dehn said they will be holding a regular meeting on Tuesday to address this matter. When reached by phone, Dehn was unable to provide anymore details at this time.
