Freezing rain expected in northern Wellington County tomorrow morning

The freezing rain may cause ice build-up, which, combined with strong winds, could lead to local power outages, Environment Canada warns

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Mount Forest - Arthur - northern Wellington County
  • Guelph - Erin - southern Wellington County

Freezing rain expected Saturday morning.

Hazards:
A period of freezing rain leading to ice build-up.
Ice accretion near five mm possible.

Timing:
Saturday morning.

Discussion:
Freezing rain is forecast to begin Saturday morning and will likely last for a few hours before transitioning over to rain Saturday afternoon as temperatures rise above zero. A few millimetres of ice accretion will be possible.

In addition to the potential for freezing rain, strong winds gusting up to 70 or 80 km/h are also expected Saturday morning into Saturday evening. The combination of strong winds and ice build-up may lead to local power outages.

Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.
