ELORA – The annual Giant Book Sale didn’t disappoint with its return after two-years.
In fact, this edition of the Elora Festival fundraiser was a record year raising $60,000.
A press release from the Elora festival stated the book sale has been an annual event since 1989, starting out small scale before eventually moving to its current location at the Elora Curling Club.
Over 60,000 books were donated over the past few months and just prior to the beginning of the pandemic.
“Over the 30-plus years the book sale has existed it has grown and grown and is now a force of its own,” said Peter Barr, Elora Festival board chair, in a press release. “Thousands of volunteer hours throughout the year have created tremendous support for the Elora Festival and for the community as a whole. It’s truly amazing.”
Since the first book sale in 1989, the release said these fundraisers have now raised a total over $1 million.
The Elora Festival runs this summer from July 8 to 24.
