WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington County’s three hospitals will no longer be requiring masks in most areas.

Wellington Health Care Alliance announced starting Friday, Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Palmerston and District Hospital and Louise Marshall Hospital will be shifting to a “mask-friendly policy.”

What this means is staff, patients, families, caregivers and volunteers are encouraged to but not required to wear masks except for when in oncology.

Patients and care partners can request anyone in their presence wear a mask.

“This choice will be honoured and respected without question,” the release stated.

People may be required to wear a mask while interacting with a patient in isolation or where additional precautions are in use and patients at the ER with respiratory illness will be asked to wear a mask while waiting for care.

Masks will remain available at the hospitals for anyone who prefers to wear one.

Universal masking may be reintroduced based on disease activity, during respiratory season and for outbreak management.
