WELLINGTON COUNTY – Farms and other agriculture-related businesses in north Wellington County are opening their doors as part of a self-guided tour later in May.

The Taste Real Spring Rural Romp will be an in-person event on Saturday, May 28 at 13 locations across Mapleton, Minto and Wellington North townships.

This is a free and self-guided farm and food tour meant as a way to expose the public to local agriculture and learn about food grown in Wellington County.

“Rompers will have the opportunity to meet local farmers, visit farm animals, go on wagon rides, participate in tours and activities, and purchase seedlings, flowers, plants, spring produce and other local food,” a press release said.

This annual event has been running as a hybrid campaign for the past two years but this edition marks a return to a full in-person experience.

Participants have a chance to win one of three $100 gift certificates to a local food business if they find out the answer to a “treasure hunt question.”

Rural Romp Maps are available at all participating locations or can be requested from the county’s economic development office. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
