CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Fergus Grand Theatre invites one and all to a free event to celebrate World Theatre Day on Thursday, March 27 at 7p.m.
This global event celebrates the power of live theatre to foster creativity, entertain audiences, uplift communities, and help shape a better world. Everyone is welcome to attend.
“World Theatre Day has quickly become an annual tradition here at the theatre,” says theatre coordinator Eric Goudie.
“This year we have our largest line-up of performances that we’ve ever had for the event, and it truly is a chance to see some of the best and brightest theatrical talent that Centre Wellington has to offer.”
Beginning with a reading of the World Theatre Day message the event will feature performances by Elora Community Theatre, Centre Wellington Children’s Drama Club, and others.
There will also be the presentation of the Lis Peiper Award, given annually to a member of the local performing arts community who has demonstrated long-standing service to local theatre.
Other special announcements about upcoming programming at the theatre can also be expected.
This year’s event features something special – a 10-minute play contest.
The theatre put out a call to Canadian playwrights several months ago to submit short scripts on a theme. The three winners of that contest have now been chosen, and the scripts will be given a staged reading by local performers as part of the World Theatre Day festivities.
Two of the three winning playwrights may also be in attendance.
If you’d like to volunteer to read a part of one of the winning plays, the theatre is currently looking for script readers. Please call the box office at 519-787-1981 if you are interested.
