WELLINGTON COUNTY – One of this season’s new Western Ontario Super Hockey League (WOSHL) has ended its losing streak.

Erin Blitz got its first win on the road against the Delhi Flames on Saturday night. The match was tied up 3-3 at the end of regular time and ended up in a shootout after a scoreless overtime.

Jacob Miller and Maxwell Lightfoot of the Blitz both scored in the shootout while Brayden Kelso stopped any goals from Delhi to give the team its first win.

The Blitz had previously lost eight straight games before that.

But it was a two game weekend for Erin who ended up on the losing end of an overtime game against the Plattsville Lakers on Sunday.

Although the Blitz rallied towards the end, tying the game at 7-7 at the end of regular time,  the Lakers got the goal for the win to finish the game 8-7.

The Elora Rocks also had a mixed bag weekend with a win and a loss.

On Friday at home, the Rocks had a dominant victory over the Plattsville Lakers winning 9-3.

This game was also the Hockey Fights Cancer fundraiser game, which Rocks president Rich Wigmore said in a message raised $1,825 for Team Addy.

The following day, it was Elora on the losing end of a dominant game.

The Stratford Fighting Irish won big at home 10-5 over Elora. Stratford had double the amount of shots on goal with 50.

Elora remains ranked second in the WOSHL standings with eight wins and three losses and Erin is ranked ninth with one win and nine losses.

Both teams will get a chance at a rematch this upcoming weekend as Elora hosts Stratford at the Elora Community Centre on Friday and Erin gets another chance against the Lakers on Saturday at the Centre 2000.
