Caleb passed away on March 12, 2023, at Grand River Hospital Kitchener at the age of 6 months. Caleb was the loving and precious child of Jamie & Heather Doerbecker of Elmira. Caleb will be sadly missed by his big sister Olivia Doerbecker. Loved Grandson of Pat & Susan Moir, Kevin and Joyce Doerbecker and Great Grandson to Lorraine McLeod, Gail Doerbecker and Doris Runstedler. Dear nephew of Dana Moir, Carly Moir (Michael Jeffrey), Katelyn Gordner (Mike) and Heather Piller (Trevor). He will also be remembered by his cousins Kenna Gordner and Liam Piller. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support over his journey.
Caleb loved cuddles with whoever wanted them, enjoyed walks and being outside as much as possible. Caleb got to experience many different activities including watching volleyball, swimming, hockey and ringette. Caleb was able to bring so much joy to so many people in his short time with us.
A special thank you to the staff at Grand River Hospital for the care he received when he was first born and other trips back, including the final moments of his life. Words cannot express how much we appreciate the first responders who were involved in caring for Caleb when he needed them the most. Another thank you for the amazing care Caleb received in his 94 days spent at the McMaster Children’s Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a rare genetic type of epilepsy. He left there with an additional family who loved and cared for him and enjoyed his visits back for appointments. Without the NICU, neurology department and QOLA team we would not have been able to give him his best life.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Graham Giddy Funeral Home Waterloo Chapel at 617 King Street N Waterloo (519-888-7700) on Saturday March 18, from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. A funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Dan Bowyer officiating. Reception to follow in the Wellington Room of the Funeral Home. Donations in memory of Caleb can be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario or the Neonatal Unit at Hamilton Health Sciences (McMaster Children’s Hospital).
