It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home in Fergus, Ontario on May 16th, just weeks after his 89th birthday.

Adored husband of Maria Garbotz for the past 64 years. Cherished father of Heide (Dan Remollino), Roy (Paula Berry), Ralph, and Martin. Proud Opa of his grandchildren; Clint, Eric, Tessa, Carson and Paetra, and great-grandchild; Tera Mae.

Kurt came to Canada in 1959 with his wife Maria, from Schlesian, Germany. He was a kind-hearted, generous and devoted family man. He adored his family and loved life the best when they were all together celebrating special occasions and regular family visits. Every time he would see his grandchildren, the biggest smile would come over his face. He enjoyed working around the property and looking after the animals. He came from many generations of land-owners in East Germany, growing up on a farm there and after coming to Canada, realizing his dream of having one here of his own. Kurt was a hard worker and while also farming, was responsible for being a construction Superintendent and proudly completing many bridges along the 401 near the airport, as well as numerous others across the province. He was a true “gentle man” with a heart of gold, and for many decades was an active member of the Masons, Shriners, and other charities (Guelph District Shine Club, Shriners International, Rameses Temple Toronto, Royal Arch Masons, and Trillium Lodge 724 Guelph). For years he was also an active member of the German-Canadian Club in Guelph. We will always remember him in our hearts, and he will always be missed by us and the dear friends who knew him during all those years.

A private family funeral service will take place at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus, followed by interment at Johnson Eramosa Pioneer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
