Peters, Karen Joan (nee Van Viegen) of Fergus, Ontario passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2022 at Grand River Hospital after a brief illness with family at her side. Loving wife of Larry Peters of 22 years. Mom of Geoffrey Turner (Melanie Gutcher) of Brantford, Brandon Turner (Natalie) of Toronto, Joshua Van Viegen of Calgary, James Van Viegen (Katie) of London, Jessica Van Viegen of Calgary. Stepmom to Jordan Peters ( Laura Ball) of Thorold, Kory Peters (Jolene) of Stoney Creek, Kiel Peters (Amie Pister) of Saskachewan. Loved Grandmother of 14 and Great Grandmother of 2. She was predeceased by her parents Conn & Gertie Warkentin and her brother Dave Warkentin.
Karen was a big supporter of the arts working for both the Elora Centre for the Arts and the Elora Festival as Publicity Manager and Administration Assistant. She was loved by the artists, volunteers, staff and Board. She volunteered with Centre Wellington Minor Ball, Rural Women’s Shelter, CW Food Bank and Fergus Elora Cable TV -Community Channel, where she hosted the News Program for 2 years. She loved to travel and her and Larry had many adventures together.
A Memorial Celebration will take place at Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus on Saturday, July 30th from 1-4pm followed by a reception at the family home, 309 Millburn Blvd. Fergus.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Karen's memory may be made to the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund.
