At least one person dead after early morning house fire in Toronto

TORONTO — At least one person has died and another is missing after an early-morning house fire in Toronto.

Firefighters were called to a three-storey home around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Toronto Fire Services platoon chief Peter Chow says the blaze caused part of the first floor of the home to collapse into the basement.

Chow says at least one person has died and another is missing.

He says firefighters haven't been able to enter the building yet as it isn't stable.

Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg says an investigation into the origin, cause and circumstances of the fire will begin once it is safe to do so.

He also tweeted his condolences to the family and friends of all those affected by the fatal fire.
