Pedestrian killed, second seriously injured in multi-vehicle Brampton, Ont. collision

BRAMPTON, Ont. — Police in Brampton, Ont., say one pedestrian is dead and a woman who came to her aid suffered serious injuries after they were both hit by vehicles.

Peel Regional Police say they got a call around 5:45 a.m. Friday reporting that two pedestrians had been hit near the intersection of Heritage Road and Steeles Avenue.

Police say a 41-year-old woman died at the scene and a 30-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries.

They say the woman who died was crossing Steeles Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle headed east, sending her into the other lane where she was hit by a second driver going west and then again by a third vehicle.

The 30-year-old who came to help was also hit by a vehicle, though police say it's unclear whether it was the second or third vehicle, or both.

Police are looking for the driver of a grey mid-sized SUV, who they say fled the scene while the other two drivers stayed.
