$1M damage to storage building caused in fire in Mount Forest

Fire crews from Wellington North responded to two fires in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At around 2:48 a.m., Wellington North Fire responded to a structure fire on Sligo Road in Mount Forest at a storage building containing cardboard products and other items.

There were no occupants in the building and no injuries were reported, the fire department said in a news release.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The damage estimate is set at over $1 million.

The second call came in around 3:18 a.m. of a car fire with possible extension to the surrounding house and shed.

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down before there was too much spread to nearby structures.

Everyone in the house got out safely, and there were no injuries to anyone involved, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The damage estimate is set at $50,000.

Approximately 60 firefighters attended the incidents including both stations from Wellington North and mutual aid was provided from neighbouring fire departments including Minto, Mapleton, West Grey, Southgate, and Shelburne.
