Alma teen charged with driving more than twice the speed limit

On October 27, 2024, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 12, Mapleton. At approximately 9:45 p.m., the driver of a black pick up truck was observed travelling more than 80km/h over the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old from Alma, was charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Speeding 1-49 over posted limit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
