TOWN OF ERIN - The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is requesting public assistance in locating suspect(s) in relation to a theft of telecommunication wires from a utility pole.
On Feb. 12, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report of telecommunication wires being stolen from a utility pole on the side of the road of Wellington Road 22, between 6th Line and Trafalgar Road within the Town of Erin.
The investigation revealed that on Feb. 11, 2025, at 1:07 p.m., unknown suspect(s) cut down and stole three copper cables and one fibre cable from a utility pole on the side of Wellington Road 22 within the Town of Erin. It was estimated that the suspect(s) were there for approximately 30 minutes to be able to cut down the cables.
Approximately 200 people were out of service as a result of the cable thefts.
The Wellington County OPP is asking anyone who resides in the approximately area of the theft to check their dash-cam and home CCTV, in the event they locate the suspects in the area in relation to this theft. The approximate time frame to view their footage would be from 11:30 a.m., to 2:00 p.m. on February 11, 2025.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided when available.
