Driver charged with impaired in Elora

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Sept. 4, 2021, at approximately 9:05 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment investigated the driver of a pick-up truck that was stopped at the intersection of Geddes Street and Henderson Street in Elora.

Police spoke with the driver and formed the opinion that they were impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest.

As a result, Richard Terry Ryan, 60 years old of no fixed address, has been charged with impaired operation, impaired operation 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) and failure to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on Sept. 17, 2021.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.
