Impaired charge for Harriston driver who left scene of crash

On Nov. 24, 2022 at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a Sport Utility Vehicle and a sedan on Elora Street South, Harriston. It was reported that the sedan fled the scene of the collision at a high rate of speed. The Wellington County OPP and Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services attended the scene, and the driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. 

Witnesses were able to take photographs of the sedan involved as well as its driver. Officers located the other driver and vehicle involved in the collision. As a result of the investigation, an individual from Harriston has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), failure to stop after accident, and dangerous operation, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice, Guelph, at a later date.
