HOWICK — Members from the Huron & Perth Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) have laid criminal charges against a couple following a traffic stop early yesterday morning.

On Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, members from the Huron & Perth OPP Community Street Crimes Unit followed a vehicle that left a residence in Wroxeter to a gas station located in Harriston and completed a traffic stop.

Officers noted the licence plate attached to the vehicle was not registered nor authorized to be on the vehicle. Further, upon closer examination officers noted the licence plate had been altered. Upon checking on the actual licence plate number police soon learned the licence plate had recently been reported stolen.   

While speaking with the occupants officers also observed suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle. Both occupants were placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest resulted in police seizing suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $4,600. Additionally, police seized a pellet rifle and pellet handgun from the vehicle. 

A 29-year-old Wroxeter resident has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine,
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous Purpose,
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000,
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle,
  • Use altered plate and
  • Operate motor vehicle no insurance. 

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 22, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.

A 33-year-old North Perth residenthas been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine,
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and
  • Fail to comply with recognizance. 

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 5, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
