67 cattle lost in overnight barn fire near Alma

The incident happened on Wellington Road 17

Sixty seven cows have been reported dead following an overnight barn fire.

The fire, which happened Friday night, occurred on Wellington Road 17 near the village of Alma and Woolwich Township.

Centre Wellington OPP Constable Joshua Cunningham said emergency services arrived on scene shortly after 1 a.m.

Fire crews from Centre Wellington, Woolwich, Drayton and Floradale responded to the fire. Cunningham said a paramedic crew was also on standby.

While some cattle managed to escape the fire, 67 were lost.

Jonathan Karn, Centre Wellington deputy fire chief, reported on Twitter there were no injuries to the propriety owners or fire fighters.

As of Saturday morning, fire crews are still on scene to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
