Pair faces charges in Fergus shoplifting investigation

Police say $1,500 in cosmetics was stolen from the same retailer on Tower Street South on March 28 and April 11

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges against two people in serial shoplifting investigation.

On March 28, around 6:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a report of theft from a retailer on Tower Street South in Fergus. It was reported that two individuals had shoplifted over $1,000 in cosmetics.

On April 11, at approximately 1 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to another reported theft from the same retailer on Tower Street South in Fergus. It was reported that an individual had shoplifted approximately $500 in cosmetics.

In both cases, surveillance footage aided in the identification of the accused.

As a result, a 36-year-old from Fergus has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on June 16. A 37-year-old from Fergus has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on June 6.
