Police investigating damage to election signs in Fergus

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Sept. 8, 2021, at approximately 11:50 a.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment received a report of damaged Federal election signs in Fergus.

It was reported that several Liberal party candidate signs have been damaged or removed throughout the town.

The Wellington County OPP is reminding residents that tampering with election signs in anyway is an offence under the Criminal Code and the Canada Elections Act. Stealing, damaging or destroying a candidate's sign could lead to charges of mischief and/or theft.

Wellington County OPP is encouraging residents to report election sign damage and theft by calling 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip on-line at www.csgw.tips. You may be eligible for a reward from Crime Stoppers of up to $2,000.
