Several arrests for stunt, impaired driving in Wellington County

Charges laid between July 29 and Aug. 3 by OPP

On July 29, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 14, in the Township of Wellington North. At approximately 8:40 a.m., a silver Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation a 43-year-old driver from Arthur has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offence court - Guelph, at a later date.

On July 29, 2022, at approximately 1:45 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a grey pick-up truck on Wellington Road 7, Mapleton. As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old driver from Kitchener has been charged with operate motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On July 29, 2022, at approximately 2:30 p.m. a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black pick-up truck on Wellington Road 6, Wellington North. As a result of an investigation, a 46-year-old Kitchener resident has been charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL f blood) contrary to the Criminal Code and drive with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph, at a later date.

On July 29, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Second Line, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 5:30 p.m., a black sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation a 28-year-old driver from Hamilton has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offence court - Guelph, at a later date.

On July 29, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Second Line, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 6:00 p.m., a white S.U.V. was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old driver from Guelph/Eramosa twp. has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offence court - Guelph, at a later date.

On July 30, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Centre Wellington. At approximately 12:30 a.m. a black sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation a 32-year-old driver from Welland has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offence court - Guelph, at a later date.

On July 30, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Centre Wellington. At approximately 1:30 a.m., a black S.U.V. was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation a 31-year-old driver from Elmira has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed and drive no valid permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and with Operate without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offence court - Guelph, at a later date.

On July 30, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black hatchback on Curtis Drive, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old driver of Guelph has been charged with fail to properly wear seat belt, no valid permit and improper muffler contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and with Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On July 30, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 30, Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 4:45 p.m., a white van was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation a 23-year-old driver from Etobicoke has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offence court - Guelph, at a later date.

On August 2, 2022, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Centre Wellington. At approximately 7:45 a.m. a blue sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old driver from Cambridge has been charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offence court - Guelph, at a later date.

On August 3, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a grey pick-up truck on Gordon Street, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old driver from Fergus has been charged with fail to apply for permit on becoming owner contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and with Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date.

On August 3, 2022, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on a closed section of Second Line, south of Elora. The roadway was closed as debris from a severe weather event blocked the highway. It was reported that a black S.U.V. had driven around road closure barricades and struck the debris. As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old driver from Kitchener has been charged with drive on closed highway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Anyone charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or failing to comply with demand receives a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment as per statute.
