Erin council candidate Bridget Ryan.

EloraFergusToday asked candidates in the upcoming municipal election to tell us a little bit about themselves and their platform.

Name: Bridget Ryan

Occupation: Marketing, writing, equine events

How long have you lived in Erin? 23 years

Why are you running in this election? I want to contribute to positive change going forward as Erin grows,  to help support a community that as well balanced, sustainable and remains a great place to live.

What qualifies you to represent Erin? My experience and contribution in the community through equine and Shri-related projects, local food and tourism related activities, raising our children here and living on a small farm in Erin has given me a perspective of how I’d like to see our community move forward so that we are future ready to support a regenerative community.

Why should people vote for you? I think that people should vote for me if they agree that we need a triple bottom line which includes economic viability, eco sustainability and responsible community based solutions, while protecting our agri heritage and embracing innovative solutions.

What do you see as the main issues facing residents of Erin on a broader scale? Unmitigated growth and development.

What is the most important thing you want to see changed in Erin? It is about supporting the vision and planning and thinking that has been established to create a Town and community that embraces change while maintaining the things that already make Erin great; small town charm, local farms and unique offerings and experiences.

What services need to be improved in Erin? Tourism, green based business and residential living options, public transit.

Is Erin growing too fast, just the right amount, or not fast enough? I agree we need some growth, however we may need more creative solutions to density and housing options.

What can be done at the local level about the rising cost of housing? I’m going to investigate this question more. I don’t feel qualified to answer this question at this time.

Do you support building the wastewater treatment plant? This question requires more time/space to accurately reflect my position.

How do we make Erin an even better place to live? Erin is already a great place. Our biggest opportunity is to protect what we have here and to communicate clearly to residents and visitors our plan to do this.
