Writ dropped: Here's your declared federal candidates for Wellington County

Voters will head to the polls on Sept. 20, the prime minister announced Sunday. 

With five weeks to go until the election, the Liberals and Conservatives have declared candidates in both Wellington County ridings. Meanwhile the NDP and the Greens have one spot each left to fill in the county. 

As of Sunday, declared candidates from major parties in Wellington-Halton Hills are:

  • Michael Chong, Conservative 
  • Melanie Lang, Liberal
  • Ran Zhu, Green

In 2019, Chong captured 47.4 per cent of the vote to buoy him to his sixth term. Liberal Leslie Barron received 28.4 per cent of the vote, followed by Ralph Martin (Green) at 12.7 per cent, Andrew Bascombe (NDP) at 9.3 per cent, and Syl Carle (People's Party of Canada) at 2.2 per cent.

Meanwhile in Perth-Wellington, declared candidates are:

  • Brendan Knight, Liberal
  • Kevin Kruchkywich, NDP
  • John Nater, Conservative

In 2019 Nater won a second term with 46.4 per cent of the vote, followed by Pirie Mitchell (Liberal) with 27.1 per cent, Geoff Krauter (NDP) with 14.6 per cent, and Collan Simmons (Green) with nine per cent. Roger Fuhr of the People's Party and Irma DeVries of the Christian Heritage Party received 1.6 per cent and 1.3 per cent respectively.
