SKILLED TRADES, Free Workplace Language Training and Career Exploration for Newcomers


Join our Free Skilled Trades Exploration for Newcomers Program!
This 8-week program is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and is available to newcomers who are interested in learning more about construction, manufacturing and electrical skilled trades careers in Ontario.

You will learn and practice:
Overview of the Canadian skilled trades field
Job-specific language related to construction, manufacturing and electrical trades
Skilled trades pathways to employment
Exploration of the construction labour market
Enhanced knowledge of Canadian workplace culture
Health & safety overview in the construction field
Canadian employer expectations, standards and laws
Job search strategies
Resume and cover letters
Conversation skills
Job interview skills and practice
Connection to employers

Eligibility Criteria
Adult immigrants (18+) who are residents of Ontario
Naturalized Canadian citizens, permanent residents, convention refugees or refugee claimants
VISA Permit holders admitted under a federal caregiver program with a pathway to permanent residency
Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 4+

If you answered “Yes” to any of the above including having a CLB Level 4+ and you are interested in pursuing a career in construction, manufacturing or electrical trades, then this program might be for you.
