CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Township of Centre Wellington is looking at $23 million worth of projects in 2024, according to its draft budget.

A report going forward at Centre Wellington’s Monday committee of the whole meeting lays out the proposed 2024 capital budget, three-year forecast and bridge and major culvert 10-year plan with $24 million worth of projects identified for next year.

This is more than $10 million less than was approved for 2023.

The largest project on the draft budget is the first phase of the St. David Street North reconstruction in Fergus earmarked at $3.4 million. The road and buried infrastructure in the area is in need of replacement and the township will be redesigning the road at the same time to include bike lanes.

The first phase is from St. Andrew Street to Edinburgh Avenue and a second phase is planned for 2025 focused on the block from Edinburgh Avenue to Garafraxa Street.

The project received $2.8 million in connecting links funding from the province.

Another big ticket item is road and infrastructure work on Gerrie Road to accommodate Elora’s Ainley development set at $3.1 million.

Work includes removal and replacement of much of the existing road, a sanitary sewer extension through Drimmie Park, hydro infrastructure relocations, installation of a new watermain and upgrading the west side to an urban standard which will include storm sewers, curb and gutter, multi-use path, street trees and streetlights.

Also included is $1.7 million to begin the process of developing a new central operations centre at 965 Gartshore in Fergus with earthworks and services. Full construction is expected to start in 2025.

Paving rural Eighth Line West from Sideroad 11 to Wellington Road 17 is earmarked at $1.6 million.
