ARKELL – The county is considering changes to the speed limit on a road between Guelph and Arkell.

Wellington Road 41, also known as Watson Road South, will have a stretch of its speed limit lowered to 70 km/h from 80 km/h near Arkell.

A report going forward at a county roads committee meeting on Tuesday recommends reducing the portion of the road that runs from the north of Arkell just past Boreham Drive to the Eramosa River on the edge of the city boundary.

This recommendation mostly follows guidelines laid out in the County of Wellington’s road master action plan, a document approved last year identifying improvements to be made to the county’s road network to 2041.

The report noted this staff recommendation differs slightly as the road master action plan’s speed management review recommended a 60 km/hr limit from the Eramosa River to the city limits.

This speed limit change will be considered by the roads committee on Tuesday and then would need to be ratified by county council at a meeting later this month.
