ELORA – The Elora Community Centre (ECC) is now shut down for the rest of the year while it undergoes a huge renovation.

As of Sunday, all areas of the ECC have been closed to the public and it is not expected to reopen until all renovations are complete. The expected time of completion is January 2024.

User groups such as hockey and ringette have been moved to Fergus.

The ECC is over 40 years old and is considered to be well beyond its expected life, according to the ConnectCW page dedicated to the renovation project.

In April 2022, council endorsed a scope of work on the project to include:

  • Replacement of the concrete ice pad, arena boards, protective glass and ice making equipment
  • Updated refrigeration/mechanical room and equipment
  • Accessibility upgrades including dressing rooms, viewing area, washrooms, entrances and doors
  • Renovated lobby for improved traffic flow and customer service

The total project cost was approved at $4.9 million which included grant funding from the federal and provincial government.

The federal grant for the project is $1.99 million, the province chipped in $1.66 million and the township put forward $1.33 million.
