Construction of the Trafalgar Road gravity sewer will continue throughout the winter of 2024.
From Jan. 8 to March 31, the active construction zone on Trafalgar Road will extend from Mill Street to Upper Canada Drive/Church Street.
This closure is required for the installation of the remaining water and sewer pipes, as well as the numerous water and sewer service connections that cross Trafalgar Road.
The current D-1 detour route to downtown Hillsburgh will be discontinued on Dec. 22, weather permitting, and a revised detour route for vehicular traffic (Rev. D-1) will be established to bypass the active construction zone.
All traffic must adhere to the posted speed limits on local roads. Access to homes and businesses within the active construction zone, as well as emergency vehicles, will be maintained during this period.
During the holidays, from Dec. 22 to Jan. 8, Trafalgar Road will be closed to all traffic from just north of Mill Street up to just south of George Street (North).
This road segment will contain a fenced-in laydown area that will be used by the contractor for equipment and material storage. Local homes and businesses can be accessed via the revised detour route D-1 during this period.
During the holidays and throughout the winter, Mill Street will be accessible from the south along Trafalgar Road. Snow removal will be co-ordinated between the Town, the County of Wellington and the Town’s contractor during the holidays and winter season to ensure safe travel within the community of Hillsburgh.
The Town will continue to provide updates to inform residents about the extent of the active construction zone and the affected area. The Town and contractor will make every effort to minimize impacts to the community.
Local businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the construction period.
