NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON
*************************
Yesterday afternoon, the Province released its Roadmap to Reopen, a three-step plan to safely and cautiously reopen the province and gradually lift public health measures.  The plan is based on:

  • The provincewide vaccination rate
  • Improvement in key public health and health care indicators

“We have continued to make decisions and take actions that have been consistent with the advice of our health professionals under the direction of Dr. Mercer and her Public Health Team” said Mayor Linton.  “We need to continue to be socially responsible, maintain social distancing, and follow the public health protocols.  Vaccinations are key to moving throughout the provinces Roadmap to Reopen, when it is your turn, take the jab!”

The following outdoor recreational amenities will re-open as of 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, May 22

  • soccer and other sports fields
  • tennis
  • basketball courts
  • skate parks
  • No outdoor team sports or recreational classes are permitted.  Splash pads will remain closed. These activities are identified in Step 1 which is estimated to begin on June 14
  • Playgrounds remain open

Please continue to practice physical distancing of 2 meters, consider leaving the amenity if it is crowded, consider wearing a mask and follow the posted signage.  All other COVID-19 restrictions remain in effect until the Stay at Home order expires on June 2, 2021. It is expected that Step 1 will begin on June 14.  The province will remain at each step for at least 21 days to evaluate any impacts on key public health and health system indicators.  At the end of the 21 days, they will evaluate vaccination rates and look for positive trends in other key public health and health system indicators.  If trends in key public health and health system indicators are positive, the province will move to the next step two weeks after the following vaccination thresholds have been met:

Step 1: 60 per cent of adults vaccinated with one dose
An initial focus on resuming outdoor activities with smaller crowds where the risk of transmission is lower, and permitting retail with restrictions. This includes:

  • outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people
  • outdoor dining with up to four people per table
  • non-essential retail at 15 per cent capacity

Step 2: 70 per cent of adults vaccinated with one dose and 20 per cent vaccinated with two doses
Further expanding outdoor activities and resuming limited indoor services with small numbers of people and with face coverings being worn. This includes:

  • outdoor gatherings of up to 25 people
  • outdoor sports and leagues
  • overnight camps
  • personal care services where face coverings can be worn and with capacity limits
  • indoor religious services, rites or ceremony gatherings at 15 per cent capacity

Step 3: 70 to 80 per cent of adults vaccinated with one dose and 25 per cent vaccinated with two doses
Expanding access to indoor settings, with restrictions, including where there are larger numbers of people and where face coverings can’t always be worn. This includes:

  • indoor sports and recreational fitness
  • indoor dining
  • museums, art galleries and libraries
  • casinos and bingo halls with capacity limits

Any changes in operations will continue to be communicated and posted to the Townships website and on our social media platforms, www.facebook.com/CentreWellington and Twitter www.twitter.com/CentrWellington.
