MINTO – The Town of Minto is looking to continue an artistic streak in Harriston.

A report going forward to Minto council recommends approving a mural to go up in Downtown Harriston.

The mural’s agreed upon design has a sport theme and will be painted on the side of the Eric Cox Sanitation building on Elora Street by Toronto artist Blaze Wiradharma.

Wiradharma has done murals in the town before. In 2020 he was one of four artists that did separate murals in Downtown Harriston. He returned again in 2021 to paint one at Foodland.

The report stated these murals continue to be a hit and last year the Fisk family, owners of the Eric Cox Sanitation building, began working with Wiradharma on a concept for the south side of the building.

"Public art is an important element in our downtowns and adds to the quality of place in a community," the report stated. "The (economic development) committee feels the addition of murals will continue to improve the aesthetics of the downtown core.

This mural will measure 50 feet long by 10 feet high and cost $12,500.
