MINTO - The Town of Minto’s ‘inclusivity’ pedestrian crossover in Harriston will be created by Cambridge’s TM3 Inc. for the estimated price of $286,311.58.
Minto council was set to award the tender contract to TM3 Inc, for $286,311.58 at its council meeting on Tuesday night.
The town requested tender documents from five contractors and only received one, which was from TM3 Inc. TM3’s bid includes the installation of the crossover as well as inflation costs and required sidewalk and storm works.
At its March 1 meeting, council voted 5-2 to direct staff to proceed with an 'inclusivity crossover' as a pilot project in recognition of the LGBTQ2S+, Black, Indigenous, and people of colour communities.
The pedestrian crossover will be located at the intersection of Elora Street South and Young Street in Harriston.
Work which consists of the replacement of the substandard sidewalk, and the construction of a new sidewalk along the East side of Queen Street South to the public pool are included in the 2022 capital budget. The town estimated the construction cost to be at $175,000.
Minto Pride has already committed to funding the cost of the additional expense to include the colour pallet in recognition of the LGBTQ2S+ and BIPOC communities which is estimated at $7,000.
Additional funding will be taken from the town’s roads reserve fund.
