WELLINGTON NORTH – Downtown Arthur and Mount Forest might be getting extra waste collection.
A report going towards the County of Wellington’s solid waste services committee said during a meeting with Wellington North township officials, a request was made for the cost of additional waste collection in the downtown areas of Arthur and Mount Forest.
Since the beginning of the county’s green bin program in 2020, waste collection has been reduced to every other week.
Earlier in the year, Centre Wellington officials requested an increase in waste pick-up in its downtown areas to combat odour, appearance and pest issues. A pilot project began at the township’s cost.
The report said a similar program could work in Arthur and Mount Forest.
“In discussions with the curbside collection contractor, weekly waste collection service for these downtown areas can be incorporated into existing routing, without negatively impacting the contractor’s ability to meet contract expectations,” the report said.
Should the Township of Wellington North accept, it will pay for the additional service and solid waste services would determine the collection boundary and administer the work.
