Children in the Village of Erin will soon have new accessible playground equipment at Carberry Park this summer as an alternative following the closure of Lion’s Club Park.

On March 28, council approved the sole source purchase of playground equipment from Blu Imp for $153,327, at no cost to the Town.  Staff pursued a sole-source purchase due to timing constraints in order to have the unit ready for summer.

“The renovated Carberry Park will include new playground equipment that can be used by children with varying abilities — so that’s a good thing, said councillor Bridget Ryan, Council representative of Erin’s Parks, Recreation and Trails Advisory Committee.  “I like that it will also be accessible and include bike racks, benches and shade features — and it’s a nice location beside the river.”

The design sports several accessible features and ramps, and will be the first inclusive Town playground in the Village of Erin.

“As our community grows, it is important we have more parks spaced out throughout our Town,” she said.

The playground equipment is being paid for by developers as a replacement of the Lions Park playground after Lions Park was temporarily closed due to linear works construction related to the ongoing wastewater plant construction.

Council also approved $21,000 in funding from the Parks and Recreation Services Development Charges Reserve in order to cover the costs of site preparation and paving a walkway and parking spots.

It is expected that the playground will be installed in late-May.
