Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a sexual assault by an individual posing as a rideshare driver. It was reported that on Jan. 29, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the victim was waiting for their rideshare at an establishment on Woodlawn Road West in Guelph when the suspect identified himself as their rideshare driver. The victim left with the driver and was sexually assaulted.
Investigators continue to collect evidence and want to identify the suspect, who has been described as:
- East Indian male
- Around 30-40 years old
- Short hair with spiked bangs, some facial hair growth
- Brown eyes
- Wearing jeans and a darker shirt.
The vehicle was a black four-door sedan, possibly an older model Honda Civic. The vehicle did not have a taximeter (fare meter) and did not appear to have a typical rideshare navigation system. The suspect reported that he frequented the Guelph and Centre Wellington areas.
Police are also asking the public assistance in acquiring any surveillance footage from Aberdeen Street, Riley Crescent or Milburn Boulevard that had captured images of the suspect or suspect's vehicle near the time of the incident.
