Kevin Goodfellow has lost track of how many orders of fries he cooked up and how many ice cream cones he scooped over the past 12 seasons.

But he did not it was time to step back from The Fry Shack, a much-loved fast food trailer that has been a fixture at the New To You parking lot in Fergus. The burgers, hot dogs, fries and ice cream were no more as both Goodfellow and his longtime cook Caleb Wood were moving on to different adventures.

“We’re both leaving the hospitality industry to seek out another venture,” Goodfellow said. “It’s tough being a cook … you miss all your family events in the summertime.” 

It was seeking a new venture after being in the retail trade for 25 years that led to Kevin starting The Fry Shack in 2012 when he bought a trailer that wasn’t being used. 

The yellow shack and equipment were sold and sent to Orillia where it will operate as a similar business.

“Fresh cut fries were the key, not many people are serving them anymore,” Kevin said.

Even fewer now.
