Irene Carr has been the owner and operator of A Change of Pace for 30 years. She has decided to retire and move back home to Newfoundland.

Irene Carr is going home.

The longtime owner of popular Morriston eatery A Change Of Pace served her last bacon and eggs in early December, closing the doors at the beloved Highway 6 eatery, planning to move back to Newfoundland and a house she has never stepped foot in.

“I haven’t even been there yet because I’ve been here,” Carr said after 30 years of running A Change Of Pace. “I just feel it’s time to move back.”

The story was one of GuelphToday's top read stories of the year, coming in at over 40,000 page views, a number usually reserved for stories on major crime, breaking news or celebrities in town.

“Everything is just going up, up, up,” Carr said. “It’s the right time to close.”

Carr isn’t sure what will happen next at the location but noted everything is being auctioned off so the next tenant will be starting from scratch.

A farewell feed was held Dec. 18 for staff and regulars.

Then the 'CLOSED' sign went up for good.
