David Brandow stands in front of his home at 5050 Whitelaw Rd. He's appealing an expropriation effort by the County of Wellington.

David was indeed fighting Goliath after the County of Wellington expropriated part of his front lawn for expansion of Wellington Road 124 just outside Guelph.

A roundabout is planned nearby and the county needed the land.

David and Carrie Brandow appealed the move to the Ontario Land Tribunal, but later dropped the appeal.

“I’m not mad and wanting to fight city hall, I just want someone to answer some questions. This appears to be the most effective way, hopefully, to make that happen,” David Brandow said of the appeal.

The roadwork plan, as approved by county council in 2019, calls for Wellington Road 124 to be expanded to four lanes between to-be-installed roundabouts at Wellington Road 32 North and another at Wellington Road South, which are both currently signalized, three-way intersections.

The Brandow's front lawn was one of 27 properties being expropriated for the work.

Brandow said he’s reached out to county staff on a few occasions but has never heard back.
