The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) has announced its inaugural "GHS Cutest Pet Photo Contest," to celebrate the community’s adorable furry companions while raising crucial funds to support the welfare of animals in need.

Pet lovers and animal enthusiasts alike are invited to take part and show the community just why their pet is the cutest in Guelph and Wellington County.

"We are excited to launch GHS’s Cutest Pet Photo Contest as a fun way to engage with our community and shine a spotlight on the lovable pets that bring us so much joy," Lisa Veit, GHS executive director said in a news release.

"Not only is this contest a celebration of our furry, and feathered, friends, but it also serves a vital purpose in raising funds to support our ongoing efforts to support pets and people in our community."

The contest, which began Aug. 1 and runs through to Aug. 31, encourages pet owners throughout Guelph and Wellington County to "showcase both the irresistible charm of their beloved pets and their creativity and photography skills".

"All species are welcome, whether they be dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs or other companion animals," according to the humane society.

Entering the contest is easy. Participants simply pay a $20 entry fee and are encouraged to promote their page to their friends and family online and through social media for votes. Each dollar donated counts as a vote to win, with a minimum voting package of $5.

The title of GHS’s Cutest Pet Photo will go to the photo with the most votes and receive the grand prize, which includes a signature pet photography session with Laura Wombwell Photography and a large unframed print.

The winner’s photo will also be on display in GHS’s lobby for the next year.

"We're calling on all animal lovers to come together and join in the fun and help make a difference in the lives of vulnerable animals,” says Veit. " Funds raised will directly contribute to providing much needed medical care, shelter, and nourishment to animals in need.”
