ELORA – Santa is bringing a nighttime parade to Elora this year after a COVID hiatus.

Josef van den Borre, past president of the Elora Lions Club, said in an interview their Santa Claus Parade has been approved to go forward recently by public health.

On Nov. 27 at 6:15 p.m. the parade will depart from Sophia Street, down Geddes and into Metcalfe Street before turning left on Mill Street and dispersing after Irvine Street.

This being a nighttime parade, van den Borre said this parade is very colourful as every float has to be illuminated and there’s lots of music playing, including some with live bands.

Historically this parade has had between 30 to 35 floats and lasts 45 minutes to an hour.

Van den Borre said participants need to be aware of public health rules such as masking when not in your household bubble and asking floats to not pass out things like candy.

He also asked crowds to be aware of how they should act in public places when it comes to public health rules for example, “if it’s really crowded, you know, a face mask would be appropriate.”

However, recently announced lifting of restrictions for outdoor events may benefit the Elora Lions Santa Claus Parade but van den Borre was unsure how at this point.

Registration forms for floats and sponsorship will be going up on the Elora Lions website next week.

Van den Borre said they will also need some volunteers for some light traffic control, those interested can email [email protected].
