ERIN – The Ontario Fire Marshall and OPP are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a house in rural Erin.

A fire department briefing from Erin fire chief Jim Sawkins said both Erin and Hillsburgh stations were dissipated at 2 a.m. Friday to a reported structure fire at 9773 Side Road 10 in Erin.

The structure was a single family home that was fully involved with fire crews initiating a defensive attack. Thirty-two firefighters in total attended the scene.

The fire was under control around 3:20 a.m. but the house sustained severe damage and is considered a total write-off.

The cause is determined to be suspicious and the scene was turned over by Sawkins to the Ontario Fire Marshall and OPP.

The last crew returned to the fire station around 1 p.m. Friday.
