PreVenture is an evidence-based personality and prevention programming for youth that is now available at The Grove Wellington Guelph’s five youth wellness sites. The program focuses on the different coping strategies of youth through personality-based assessments, and seeks to promote mental health, improve decision making, establish positive coping mechanisms, and delay substance use among youth, a news release says.
The Grove has seen over 50 youth participants between the ages of 12-26 across its sites since partnering with PreVenture, the release stated. The PreVenture workshops aim to provide young people with confidence by identifying behaviour skills, reflecting on how youth might learn different skills to establish positive coping mechanisms, to help them manage in social settings, and work through the various challenges and opportunities they face.
“The Grove is a positive space for young people to go for their wellness needs,” said Deb Chiodo the Director of Data Management and Evaluation for Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO). “It is wonderful to see the evidence-based programming available for young people across the province to learn about personality development and different intervention styles which can contribute positively to the decision making of youth, and delay the use of illicit substances.”
“The introduction of PreVenture at The Grove Wellington Guelph has been a benefit to youth, enabling them to better understand themselves and their social circles,” said Tiffany Fagan, Team Lead at The Grove Wellington Guelph - Palmerston Site. “At the sites, we have seen how PreVenture programming has contributed to youths' ability to manage and establish goal setting in many aspects of their lives.”
