ELORA – The Elora Rocks and Tillsonburg Thunder kicked-off the league championship series on the weekend, with each team winning on home ice.

On Friday, the Rocks were the hosts although at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex in Fergus rather than their usual at the Elora Arena.

The match-up started in Tillsonburg’s favour as they scored the first two goals of the game but the Rocks kept up in the second period and went into the third down a goal at 4-3.

Elora dominated the third period with four unanswered goals. A late goal by the Thunder wasn’t enough to catch-up and Elora Rocks won Game 1 7-5.

The next day the teams faced-off in Tillsonburg in a back-and-forth battle that saw both teams tie or take the lead throughout the game.

However it was the Thunder who pulled ahead in the third with three power play goals and win the contest 7-6.

The playoff finals continue this weekend with Game 3 at the CW Sportsplex Friday starting at 8:30 p.m. and in Tillsonburg the following day at 7:30 p.m.

After a break for the Easter holiday weekend, Game 5 will be on Friday April 22 in Fergus and, if necessary, Game 6 and Game 7 will be played that Saturday and Sunday with alternating home ice.
