On the ice: how Wellington County hockey teams did last weekend

Weekly wrap-up on the wins and losses from the Elora Rocks, Fergus Whalers, Mount Forest Patriots, Erin Outlaws and Minto 81's

Elora Rocks

Elora lost at home on Friday night against the Tillsonburg Thunder in a 7-1 match-up. The team didn’t get a chance at a rematch planned for the next day as that game was postponed due to weather. 

The team is in eighth place out of 11 teams in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League standings.

The Rocks are on the road again this upcoming weekend for a Saturday evening game against the Tilbury Bluebirds. 

Fergus Whalers

The Whalers got a big win Sunday afternoon, winning 7-1 over the Mitchell Hawks on home ice. A game set for Friday against the Kincardine Bulldogs was postponed.

Fergus is fifth of eight teams in the PJHL’s North Pollock division standings. 

The team plays twice this upcoming weekend, first in Mount Forest Saturday evening against the Patriots and then hosting the Wingham Ironmen Sunday afternoon.

Mount Forest Patriots

The Patriots lost at home Saturday evening 3-2 against the Hanover Barons and had its planned Sunday match-up against the Goderich Flyers postponed.

Mount Forest is second of eight teams in the PJHL’s North Pollock division standings.

The team has a rematch against the Barons on Friday evening and then faces off against Fergus on Saturday.

Erin Outlaws

Erin won twice on the road over the weekend, first against 5-2 against the Georgian Bay Applekings on Friday and then 9-1 against the Milverton Four Wheel Drives Sunday. 

The team is eighth out of 11 teams in the Ontario Elite Hockey League standings. 

The Outlaws host the Lucknow Lancers on home ice for their next game on Saturday.

Minto 81’s

Minto’s only scheduled game against the Creemore Coyotes this past weekend was postponed. 

The 81’s are fourth out of 11 teams in the OEHL standings.

The team will get a chance to face-off against Creemore on Saturday in a road game.
