On the ice: how Wellington County hockey teams did last weekend

Weekly wrap-up on the wins and losses from the Elora Rocks, Fergus Whalers, Mount Forest Patriots, Erin Outlaws and Minto 81's

Elora Rocks

Elora has secured a spot in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League playoffs after two wins in the wildcard round over the weekend at home.

First on Friday, Elora won 6-2 over the Orangeville Blitz and then won 7-3 against the Delhi Flames. 

The Rocks will be up against last year’s championship team the Stratford Fighting Irish in the quarter finals.

Fergus Whalers

The Whalers won at home on Friday 5-2 against the Wingham Ironmen and then lost 6-1 against the Kincardine Bulldogs to finish out the regular season. 

Fergus will be facing off against the Walkerton Capitals in the PJHL’s North Pollock division quarter finals. 

The playoffs start at home on Tuesday evening with another home playoff game scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The team plays in Walkerton Friday evening.

Mount Forest Patriots

Mount Forest also had a mixed weekend, with a 6-5 loss in Hanover against the Barons on Friday but then a 5-2 win over Goderich Flyers.

The Patriots will be up against the Mitchell Hawks in the PJHL’s North Pollock division quarter finals. 

This series starts on home ice for Mount Forest on Wednesday evening with another home ice match-up scheduled for Saturday. The Patriots play in Mitchell on Sunday evening.

Minto 81’s

Minto is moving on to the semi-finals in the Ontario Elite Hockey League’s playoffs.

The 81’s beat the Seaforth Centenaires 4-3 on Saturday to win the series 4-2. 

The team will be up against the Creemore Coyotes in the next playoff round.
